God destined you to read this post

So I've been thinking lately about Calvinism. I had a discussion with my mother and sister a while back and they could not bring themselves to accept that God chooses who does and does not believe. That's simplifying it, of course. It really is hard to accept that God doesn't destine everyone to follow Him. I struggled with that for a really long time.

Then I stopped thinking of it in my terms and started thinking of it in His. It comes down to will. Does a person's will to not believe overpower God's will for them to believe? It can't. God's will is stronger than anything else's. So if God truly willed for everyone to be a Christian, then everyone would be. But not everyone is, so it must not be his will for everyone to be.

A lot of people believe that everything happens for a reason, that God has a purpose for everyone. I would agree with that. And if that's true, then there is a reason that not everyone is a Christian. It's not logical to say, "Everything happens for a reason," when you don't get the job promotion, but then turn around and say that there isn't a reason why some people are Christians and some are not.

In the end, it doesn't matter whether you believe in Calvinism or Arminianism. This is all information that God did not divulge to us, so it's all just speculation. Both sides believe in Evangelicalism and spreading the Gospel. It's not vital to Christianity, just a philosophy behind it. Only God really knows.

Even so, I find it intriguing.
